Padparadscha

Padparascha is the color of these Swarovski crystal earrings. I am not sure how to describe it other than pink with a hint or orange. Even if the color is hard to explain, I love the name.

April is Seeing Green

April suggested I try a lil' green monster. He got a little toasted in the firing/baking process. I think I can touch him up though.

Spring in My Step

Someone said these earrings remind them of the Spring... I know I am looking forward to the season! I think my flowers are too. The Dogwoods, Cherry Trees and Daffodils are all ready to bloom.

City Calling

Inspired by my latest business jaunt to The City that Never Sleeps. Not based on any real skyline of course, just a fanciful city view.

This is my first visit to New York and though it is only a day, I can see the appeal. Some things are hard to wrap my suburban head around, but others that illustrate the almost magical draw it has on many people. Thus, my colorful, dreamy representation!

Coraline

I watched Coraline in 3D with some friends tonight. What an amazing HAND MADE movie. The fact that every inch of the set, every character is not only made by hand, but also animated by hand is simply awe inspiring and creatively inspirational as well! It gives the button painting I made the evening before last meaning it didn't have to me before- other than being fun and colorful. If you have not seen it yet, and you appreciate a well told (and made!) story, check it out.

Winter View from an Office Window

In Boston on business again this week. After the work was wrapped up, I decided to capture the snowy view while it lasts (the temps are above freezing this week).

Tweet Tweet

You know those old cartoons where someone gets hit over the head by a giant ACME mallet or a piano falls on their head and when they get up, they see cuckoo birds and stars? Yeah- so me this week and it's only Monday. It's okay though. It always passes and I get through it! Off to Boston again early in the AM. I'm thinking I will take a brush to paper approach for a few days. We'll see how it goes. A lot to do, not much time to do it...

Happy Monday.

Orchid

First attempt at a flower sculpt. I love orchids, yet I find there is a bit more control in painting them than sculpting.

Fly Away

Tropics
by Ellen Bryant Voigt

In the still morning when you move
toward me in sleep for love,
I dream of
an island where long-stemmed cranes,
serious weather vanes,
turn slowly on one
foot. There the dragonfly folds
his mica wings and rides
the tall reed
close as a handle. The hippo yawns,
nods to thick pythons,
slack and drowsy, who droop down
like untied sashes
from the trees. The brash
hyenas do not cackle
and run but lie with their paws
on their heads like dogs.
The lazy crow’s caw
falls like a sigh. In the field
below, the fat moles build
their dull passage with an old
instinct that needs
no light or waking; its slow beat
turns the hand in sleep
as we turn toward each other
in the ripe air of summer,
before the change of weather,
before the heavy drop
of the apples.

After spending a few days in the bitter cold, I was dreaming of Spring time. It isn't quite here, so I thought I might create a little of my own.

Boston Lights

I am in Boston today. It is so cold! I rode the ferry to the office today and it was a beautiful, though chillingly cold ride. It should be in the teens tomorrow morning. Ironically enough, I think it was colder in the Atlanta area at times then Boston today. The snow is amazing. I am not sure I would like it for more than a few days, but it is nice to experience something other than the occasional dusting of ice I am used to.

Well... it is pretty cold today in Georgia and I'm managing to survive but tomorrow I am off to Boston. Wish me luck!

In honor of the cold weather ahead, I made an icicle inspired choker.
